How to Attract Queen Butterflies to Your Garden
Queens don’t migrate — in Florida they fly and breed nearly year-round, which makes them the most reliable royal a southern butterfly garden can host. Plant what they need and they don’t just visit; they move in.
Host plant: native milkweed — the exact same plants monarchs use (swamp milkweed is the favorite in our Florida garden).
Nectar plants: mistflower is a famous queen magnet; add lantana, porterweed and milkweed blossoms.
Attract them: plant milkweed and mistflower together in a sunny, pesticide-free patch and be patient — queens breed continuously in Florida, so once they find you, there’s almost always a next generation on the way.
